Sail Technology Partnership

A new project partnership between North Sails and the Wolfson Unit has just been officially announced.

This will be combining the North 3-D Finite Element Analysis tool ‘MemBrain’ and the Wolfson Unit’s customised OpenFoam Aerodynamic CFD and supercomputer system in order to develop a more refined fluid–structure interaction modelling tool to simulate downwind flying shapes which is being part funded by the Sailing Yacht Research Foundation.

This is an exciting extension to the Wolfson Unit’s relationship with North Sails and SYRF, having developed an OpenFoam based CFD capability in conjunction with North and participated in the SYRF ‘Wide Light’ Project.
