Sailing Multihull Safety

With the introduction of Codes of Practice for commercial sailing vessels, deficiencies were suspected in the methods of assessing multihull yachts. In Phase I a casualty database was compiled, and the limitations of existing stability prediction methods were assessed. In Phase II, model tests were conducted to quantify vulnerability to wind heeling, breaking waves and pitchpoling, and recommendations made for improved methods of assessment.
