    The Wolfson Unit have been assisting in the design of an innovative tourist attraction to be based in Bath city centre. AquEye is a 65m long cantilever structure that supports a viewing pod, allowing views over the city.
  • Southampton towing tank

    Excitement is building at the University of Southampton as the new 138 metre ship model basin nears the end of the construction phase. The building structural elements are complete, external cladding is being fitted and services are being installed.

    The Wolfson Unit has been involved in the development of the new Superyacht handicap system (ORCsy) which was used successfully at the recent Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht and St Barths Bucket Regattas.

    In co-operation with the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) and the Super Yacht Racing Association (SYRA), the Unit has helped, from initial research to implementation.

    The Wolfson Unit has been chosen as one of three exhibitors to showcase their expertise in a four year exhibition held at the Science Museum in London called ‘Engineer Your Future’. The exhibition’s primary sponsor is National Grid and with additional support from Engineering UK and the Royal Academy of Engineering and is aimed at 11-15 year olds.

  • Composite materials E-Lass Wolfson Unit

    The Wolfson Unit takes part in the European network E-Lass which aims to promote the application of composite materials in the maritime industry, enable the exchange of information and knowledge and initiate collaborations between industry, research and academia. The network is coordinated by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics Detached Eddy Simulation

    The Wolfson Unit have recently conducted CFD consultancy work for the Met Office, simulating the flow around a weather balloon launch shed. Detached eddy simulation (DES) was used, a method which resolves the large scale turbulent motions in the flow and captures more of the flow physics than more commonly used Reynolds averaged (RANS) approaches.
